Today I'm going to go over four must-do safety tips when installing and using your swing.

Number one is to do a two minute safety check of your swing. Now, you could have a new puppy, and the puppy accidentally got into this when you stuffed it under your bed and chewed some parts, or there's some fatigue that you need to check. So, you don't want to fall on your butt. I don't want you to fall on your butt, it's not fun. So if you do two minutes while you're putting up your swing, it's going to save you from doing that. So we want to start at the top, wherever your mounting is, the ceiling or a stand. Just make sure that your mounting points don't have any fatigue in them. Then you just check, make sure that the hardware is good, that the sewing is intact. It's really a two minute, quick check of your swing, and it will save you from falling on your butt.

Number two: do not adjust your swing when you are in it. This is very, very unsafe, because when a swing adjusts, it drops. So if you need to adjust a swing, you can lean back on another strap that's not being adjusted. Put your butt up, say you want to adjust the one that's on your butt, so there's no weight on that, and then your partner can help you. Don't attempt it by yourself. I mean, I do know that when you set up a swing, there is a little bit of adjustment. Once it's adjusted to your height and your partner's height, you don't really have to adjust it too often. But I'm going to show you what happens when you do adjust it. Most of my weight is on my feet, so keep that in mind. But see, it just drops you. When you get dropped, when it stops, that force of it stopping is about five times your body weight. So that's a lot of force being put on a swing, and you just don't want to do that. So just be safe and cautious when you are adjusting your swing, and how you go about that.

Number three is springs. And if you watch my videos, you know how important I think springs are. They are vital to every single swing. Do not use a swing without a spring. It's really that simple. If you need to upgrade one for a higher weight limit, do that, but do not use your swing without a spring. There are some manufacturers out there that say use a spring up to 200 pounds, and from 200 to 400 don't use it, and they're crazy. I don't think they've ever even used the swing. So just listen to me, always use your spring, and this is why. It's going to protect the hardware that you have it mounted to, which is really important. You don't want a failure. And it's going to protect your whole swing, right? You've paid money for this, upwards of $200 for a swing, and you want to use it and protect it. So all the weight that you have going, the bouncing that's going on, the spring is going to absorb so much of that and protect all your hardware and protect your mounting points. So always use the spring.

Number four: do not remove your ceiling mounts. If you have an eye bolt, if you have a tie down anchor, whatever it is, it's in your ceiling, it stays there. If you take it out and you put it back in the same hole, you're going to fall on your butt, because it makes that hole substantially weaker, and then you're going to put weight straight down on it. Bad idea. There's a ton of videos and stuff on installation. That's cool, get it in there, leave it alone.
